SYRIA RELIEF

Since the beginning of 2011, the crisis in Syria has caused countless people great misery, displacing an estimated 13 million Syrians, and left more than 14 million in need. 6.6 million of the displaced Syrians live as refugees in the neighboring nations of Turkey (3.8 million), Lebanon (almost 840,000), Jordan (675,000), and Iraq (over 250,000). Between 2021 and 2022, this will climb by 20%.

Syrian People In Dire Need Of Humanitarian Assistance

Here are the effects on the people of Syria in 2022 as the conflict approaches its twelfth year.

More than 80% of the population, or 14.6 million Syrians still living in the nation, need humanitarian aid. 12 million of them are seriously in need.

UNICEF estimates that 6.1 million Syrian children need help.

For their fundamental nutritional needs, the nation’s 12.4 million Syrians are food insecure.

5.7 million of the 6.6 million Syrians who are registered as refugees are in neighboring nations.

The Syrian war and its effects have now become so critical that immediate international action in the form of humanitarian relief and financial assistance is required. Over 60% of the country’s population has been negatively impacted by the crisis, with many being forced to leave their homes or relocate. The country’s predicament has had devastating repercussions, setting back economic growth and human development by decades.

Over half of the population now lives in extreme poverty as a result of the conflict’s widespread unemployment. Due to the millions of Syrians who have fled their country, neighboring countries now face increased economic and social burdens that they are ill-equipped to handle. Nearby nations including North Africa, Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt have had to take in millions of refugees, creating a human and economic crisis situation that these countries are unable to handle. Currently, there are roughly 17 million people living in abject poverty in Syria.
